Emilio Ballagas

Reinaldo Arenas

(1943-1990) Poet, novelist and writer of international reputation.

He was convicted in 1973 for ideological deviation with the Cuban government and for publishing his works outside Cuba without official consent.

Arenas came to the U.S. during the Mariel exodus in 1980, and is widely known for his book, Before Night Falls, and a film with the same title.
