Spanish troops in 1897.
During The Ten Year War (1868-78) students are executed (in 1871) for supporting the Cuban revolutionary movement.
The Spanish column shown on the photo above killed the Cubans on the left after they were bound and gagged. The soldiers later reported a battle had taken place. From: "Liberty: The Story of Cuba" by Horatio S. Rubens
